Chelsea 1-3 Man City: The one where reality set in

Kevin de Bruyne reminding Chelsea what could have been
There had been more than a good chance that Chelsea's must-win crunch clash with Manchester City was going to be called off on Sunday afternoon. Six of City's first team along with a development squad player and staff members had all tested positive for Covid. Their previous match against Everton had been postponed while their training ground had been temporarily closed for a deep clean. As the match approached these positive results were revealed along with a breach in protocol from Benjamin Mendy.

Chelsea 2-1 Man City: The one that Liverpool were NOT playing in

Captain America can't be stopped
Chelsea hosted Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night in one of their most important matches of Project Restart. With Man United having closed the gap to just two points with a win over Sheffield United the night before, this was a must win game for the Blues in their bid to secure a Champions League place for next season.

But you wouldn't have known it was an important game if you were listening to the punditry on BT Sport. In fact, their focus was so singular that you wouldn't have known the two teams that were actually involved in the actual football match playing out if it weren't for your own eyeballs seeing it play out on screen. I appreciate narrative as part of sport - who doesn't love a story - but there are levels.

Swindon Town vs Chelsea: Return of the Special Juan

'Jose made me do it'
There’s not too many people that would consider Chelsea’s Milk Capital One Cup tie a glamour fixture – it’s like Sky knew something they didn’t.  Tuesday night’s match turned out to be an opportunity for Chelsea’s players to show why they should be on the teamsheet week in and week out. Although most clubs use this very somewhat important competition as an opportunity to watch their youth and fringe players, only Chelsea would have Juan Mata and David Luiz on that list.

Chelsea v Hull City (Tigers): Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back

Blowing Kisses. Proper Football.

The eagerly anticipated Mourinho 2.0 era has kicked off. Days before kick-off, supporters were wondering who would be given the gift of sharing the adulation that would be ringing out through the stands. Were they worried someone would miss out who deserved a start? Thinking had Lukaku done enough in pre-season to impress Jose? Or were they just sorting out their fantasy teams because Chelsea play twice this week?*
