Living Up to the Hype

The Ramos....lookin' goodThe Ramos will shake your hand even if you don't allow him time to be beautiful.

I have something to admit to you all….despite the overwhelming excitement of seeing Josh McEachran (and Danny Sturridge) getting their start, I was really worried that I’d been hyping Josh a little too much here. I nearly had given him Drogba like super powers. I mean, its his first start, its Champions League, it’s a lot of pressure. But as you all witnessed, Josh came through better than ever. He completed over 100 passes and caused all kinds of trouble in the midfield constantly tracking from end to end. He may have looked a little tired at the end, but I’m pretty sure that’s just because it was past his bedtime. So, my side hobby of trying to start his fan club continues. Raise your hand if you gave your computer screen / telly a standing ovation when the little one came off. Oh…just me?

Also brilliant displays from Danny Sturridge and Kalou! Kalou may have been the difference in the whole game. When he came on, we did nothing but put pressure on their defense. In fairness, for the number of times we hit the post, the score line could have had 2 or 3 more goals easily. And not just to heap praise on the youngsters, FloMo did well to get back to scoring in the CL as the commentators constantly reminded us he hadn’t don’t it in 2 years along with Drogba. Didi may have not got on the score sheet himself, but assisted FloMo and was an absolute menace. His next goal is coming sooner than later.

Best moment of yesterday's Champions League matches? I know you think I'm going to say something more about Josh, or even Danny's goal. But no (kind of yes, but no). Greatest moment(s) yesterday was when Jose did not in any way get Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos to get themselves sent off on purpose. The Ramos was definitely more hilarious of the two as not only did he get sent off, essentially for adjusting his socks, or in official speak 'time wasting'. But he made it all the better by going to shake the referee's hand who kind of just stared at it in disdain before The Ramos gave a hair flick and trotted on down the tunnel. And if that all weren't fantastic enough? Jose has turned around and blamed the referee saying he did not have to card his players. So, really, this was all his fault. I mean, I'm pretty sure the referee should have known The Ramos needs to look his best at all times.

On to the weekend, where our lie in has been snatched from us. The Sunday kick off is at 8.30 am. So, pyjamas, coffee and breakfast could all be in the mix for our game at St James Park. I mean, shirts and nutritional plans are optional there, but I don’t think Scallywag’s would approve of any bellies being out. Newcastle is also missing midfielders due to injury and comic hilarity, while playing with back up centre backs. So, will be interesting to see two teams with patched together midfields and defenses go at it. After getting embarrassed by Bolton last week though, they’ll be looking to retain a little pride at home, somewhere that they have struggled to play well. The EoD cleverly rested many of our starters yesterday, but with the kids doing so well, will any of them re-appear? Will JT be able to handle a game after a night out in Newcastle openly discussed his injury troubles? He only said he wouldn’t be able to play against Birmingham, but kept us in the dark about the rest of the season.

And mark December 4th on your calendars. We take on Everton in the morning, but a Xmas p*ss up is in order. I’m still waiting to hear ideas if you want to have it at Scallywag’s or venture out downtown where you might see faces that you don’t see every single weekend. Let me know by the end of this weekend any preferences!
