What's that smell?? ....Welegation?

Happy Start of International Break!

It’s that time when we all wish we were just playing a league game next week, and keep our fingers crossed that no one ends up injured. It’s fantastic to go in not only top of the league but with a nice little cushion as well. Like Bolton and West Brom last week, we have Sunderland partly to thank for that. United ended up with yet another draw without a goal to their name. In fact, I’m pretty sure they didn’t even manage a shot on goal throughout the entire first half. Although, if you talk to a Manc, a task I would advise against, they will turn it around and remind you that they are awesome as they are undefeated. Well, bully for you, Citeh have now passed you. That undefeated record seeming as awesome now??

Not to quote Henry Winter, but I will “As Chelsea gripped the points, Arsenal clutched at straws.” Nice. It’s a good rebuttal to the professor who apparently can’t believe how easy we were to turn over and that they dominated us. Does this mean we should give our three points back to Arsenal? They played really well and came out to attack within the first minute. And for any neutrals, they had to love the end to end action and it probably would have been a fair result for them to at least score. They were certainly not easy in any sense of the word, but I’m pretty sure that looking at Drogba alone, we weren’t easy to dominate. They could possibly instate a rule to say that any games that he starts against Arsenal should be an automatic goal. He didn’t even need to face the net to do it. Cheeky? Yes.Fantastic? yes. And with an assist from stripped of a goal Ashley Cole, even better. But the goal everyone is talking about today is still Alex’s free kick. If he’d missed and it had gone to the stands, there would be someone there without a face. Fabianski was brave to put his hand out there. Braver than Almunia who closes his eyes when Drogba takes a shot at him. Anyways, thanks Arsene for all that credit, we’ll see you on Boxing Day where you’ll show us again how easy we are to dominate.

With those amazing goals and Alex’s defensive duties helping keep the clean sheet, there is one big Nigerian who is overlooked as he has been for a lot of this season. Obi Wan has been a revelation from the start of the season. Maybe it was the pressure of a couple signings or our reserves ready to make the jump to the senior squad, but John Obi Mikel has certainly stepped up his game. If he keeps progressing at this rate the name of the position will have to be changed from the Makele role (no, I won’t make the Mikele pun….oh….).

And for those of you lucky ducks in London town, I hope you made it to the unveiling of the statue or at least got there before / after Arsenal showed us. Peter Osgood is still the king of Stamford Bridge, and it’s a stunning tribute to have a statue of him outside the ground. What a weekend to unveil it.
