Send In The Clowns

 Morning Treacles

Its nice to have our Champions League game already out of the way with some extra rest for the lads ahead our fixture with Arsenal on Sunday. The ever patriotic Frenchmen took their places in the corner of the shed not to cheer on Marseille but really stick it to Le Sulk for being hilarious at World Cup. You'd think they wouldn't be able to blame him for Domenech being well on the road to crazy, but wait, no they in fact did blame everything on him. Just a tip to French supporters everywhere, a striker can't score when he's on the bench, or completely kicked off the team. Just sayin'. I was pretty sure this wasn't really a subtle nuance of the game, but turns out, I was wrong. I guess we're now supposed to be angry with Didier for not getting a hat trick as he was unable to play. Just you wait until Sunday Didi...  ;)

The game had a very Blackpool feel to it as we had a distinctly better first than second half. I'm hoping the Eyebrow of Doom (that's EOD for short) steps up his half time talk this week. Or maybe the tea lady just isn't up to snuff anymore. If they're taking CVs, I do in fact make a delicious cuppa. But i digress. Having a French attack againt a French team with disgruntled travelling French support was hilarious. Le Sulk needed only put a toe on the ball and the booing drowned out anything else. Until their voices ran out from all the booing because Nico was all over it yesterday. He really shines when he gets to be the star of our attack. Combine that with the genius of FloMo and there's really no stopping us. Malouda was nothing but a headache for Marseille as he's been for just about everyone this season. The magic is in the hair. Learn it, love it. That all being said, who had money on the first goal being from our captain?!? A great little goal with an even better goal celebration. In one moment he goes from looking from a middle aged man to a 10 year old boy scoring the winning goal for his local club. Fantastic from him as its been about 6 months since his last goal. A happy captain will be a resilient defender come the weekend. Confidence is everything for JT.

Do we need to talk about Nico's pen? This is his second and they are cheeky to say the least. Marseille's keeper did not even move. However, whenever I see him step up to the penalty spot....I cannot help but think of another penalty....I'm hoping this leads to some sort of exorcism of sorts for him and us. Not in the head doing a 360 kind of way....less violent. It was John Terry and Nicolas Anelka who both scored last night...in Champions League...you know....I'll stop. ;)

This weekend is our second London Derby. The gooners come to the Bridge, possibly with a fit Cesc and Vermaelen. But Didi will be back in attack for us, and you know how much he loves them. I'm pretty sure its 12/12. Who would you start in place of Lampard? With Arsenal being small and quick, its sometimes good to have such a large physical team. Essien and Mikel surely have that under wraps, would it be best to counter with someone great on the ball and speedy, maybe Josh McEachran? He's ready to break out, and has shown a lot more than Ramires so far. He only played for a couple of minutes yesterday so will be well rested as long as he doesn't have any golfing accidents with the lads today.

And although there was a massive show of support last week on their defeat to West Brom with a whole 3 supporters there, they're doing their best to rally the troops to 'take over' Scally's. So, make sure you rest up Saturday night and get out to Scally's for breakfast, pints and anything else you'll need to cure your hangover and get your vocal chords ready for some "you're only here for the Chelsea, only here for the Chelsea....". It'll be funny because its true. They can say what they want about history, trophies and what have you, but they consider us a 'big game'....so cheers for the compliment.

See you Sunday!
