Who knew the most offensive thing to do to someone would be a little wink and a celbration in front of plastics. (I mean plastic seats of course)
Morning All,
Well, you know its going to be a special weekend when we break out those dodgy green kits. They almost make me miss the ‘electric yellow I’m going to try and blind you so I can be a bit rubbish because I’ve got Sheva up front’ kits of days gone by. Not quite though, as they were properly awful. Anyways, onto some actual football talk.
Although we did not get off to the very best of starts by going down early, we didn’t panic and were soon rewarded through our talismanic striker Didi. It was disheartening after reading reports of him being off to Marseille / Madrid just before kick off to see what we could be missing. And since Roman clearly reads this, I’ll put it out there...it would be silly to get rid of Didi this season as he’s still proven that he has much to offer until Fernando gets up and running. And by up and running I mean scoring and having it actually count. Nice to see that the linesmen are in the joke.
How this game didn’t end up 6-1 is beyond me. Pretty much everyone from Malouda to JT fancied themselves a shot. If there was ever a time for Mikel to get off the mark, Saturday was definitely the day. Nice to see him named man of the match, and its a shame he hasn’t got more time on the pitch this season. He’s earned his place out there. Although that being said, Drogba ran this game at both ends and may have been slightly more deserving of the honour.
And not that I’m one to gossip here, but there’s been a rumour floating around that the players are prepared to take a stand in defense of Carlo. I’m sure you’re all surprised to learn that it’s JT who’s leading this. I mean, he’s usually such a wallflower in these situations not ever wanting to take a stand. Either way, and I know this won’t be the most popular opinion, but as this is now for Roman not you I’m going to run with it – the man deserves to stay on. Not only is he currently in the history books with our first domestic double ever (yes, I realise the first kind of implies the ‘ever’, but its not as dramatic). Much of our poor form this season was down to a ridiculous lot of injuries. We played essentially sans midfield for weeks with an underperforming Ramires and
On to some of the other fun and games....
MCFC v MUFC – the FA Cup semi final derby will henceforth be know as Winkgate. It could also be known as the match that actually saw a little ginger nuisance actually shown a card he was beyond deserving of and was due for, for the past 47 years, but it’s not quite as catchy. If only he'd just been able to 'stay on his feet'. I guess he's not always able to do what he wants. Anyways, it all felt very much like the Carling Cup final where a team in red essentially awarded themselves the victory over the ‘lowly’ team in blue only to be surprised as one team opted to play football while the other stropped around petulantly wondering why the referee had not just awarded them the match. True story, the Manc down the bar from me at my local kept shouting out “come on you refs”. I mean there is the off chance that I may have misheard him and he said “reds” but, I’m pretty sure it was “refs”. He also developed an ungodly obsession with Chelsea during the match after watching us easily beat West Brom. But what made him really great and just like each and every United supporter at Wembley – he had his jacket on 15 minutes before Fergie time and was out the door missing the greatest moment in the match. You know that moment. When Mario Balotelli celebrated his team’s victory in front of the aforementioned red plastic seats. (The irony in those words – ah, but nevermind). How dare he celebrate his team’s victory. Apparently, the former captain of England feels that no one is allowed to celebrate victory over them, and decided that he would share this with our favourite man who lacks the ability to dress himself. Yes, that man had the audacity to not only celebrate....but wink! How dare he?!? I mean, is there a greater sin than winking at another? Fortunately, Rio took a moment to climb down from his soap box to share his thoughts with Mario in a calm and collected manner evoking the sportsmanship that we’ve all grown to admire and love in United’s players and supporters alike.
AFC v LFC – the highly anticipated match between these two was basically 100 minutes of nothing and then two minutes of comedy gold. I’m still unsettled that Setanta deemed it more important than the ever glamorous fixture between Bolton and Stoke, but surely a FA Cup semi final should have taken precedence. And knowing now, what we could have known then...essentially they could have shown both with the entirety of Arsenal’s match happening after the semi final had ended. A dodgy penalty on either end of the pitch decided this one. And maybe, just maybe if RvP hadn’t decided to strip down and run a victory lap around the Emirates, they wouldn’t have added on the extra time which lead to just enough time for Eboue to completely lose his mind and foul Lucas as he was moving AWAY from goal. Eboue is one lucky man that it wasn’t Lehmann between the posts. Arsenal aren’t so lucky, as he’s now lived to see another day. However, after the penalty was awarded, the managers decided to get together and have a word about it. Wenger ‘didn’t see’ why it was a penalty, and King Kenny did his best impression of Wayne Rooney to keep it classy, and give MUFC supporters something to be excited about – pointing out just one more person who said a naughty that the camera caught.
Anyways, back to the fun of midweek football. Chelsea take on Birmingham while there is a little matter of a North London Derby. With Arsenal struggling to maintain a fight for the league, and Tottenham trying to ensure the last thing they do isn’t being bent over by Jose, this could be a fun one to watch – it could also put Chelsea back into second place...but let’s not put the cart before the horse. (And you are welcome for that terrible cliché...its Monday, its all I’ve got!)
