Eight and Counting

Serioius Case of Blue Balls...

Joe Cole just can't get over anything Blue can he?

Well another three points in hand and the end of the Rooney saga (for now), not a bad weekend all in all. Not only was it a mere three points and another win at the Bridge, but it set yet another club record. We have now gone 8 consecutive matches at home without conceding a goal. And for all the flapping that our defence seemed to be doing at the start of the match, that’s impressive. A bit of an unfair assessment, but it was due to the attack minded play on Saturday. Carletto had the lads pushed well up to try and improve our goal differential. It was definitely a gritty game and Wolves definitely did not sit back waiting for us to de-flower their goal. And although it was great goals from FloMo and Kalou, I’d give Man of the Match to Big Pete who made some fantastic saves throughout the game. I see another pair of Golden Gloves coming his way at the end of the season.

Someone else who gets to feature here in these newsletters quite often is….no, not Frank Lampard and the groin injury that will never cease. Its Josh McEachran! How fantastic is he when he gets a run out? It’s a lot of pressure to put on him, but he’s not reading this so I can just crack on. Great when he’s on the ball and gets stuck into those tackles. He looks like he could be pushed over by just about anyone from Arsenal, but his size is deceptive. He’s strong and is going to be a force to be reckoned with in our midfield.

Exciting returns for Didi and Bosingwa. Although Drogba didn’t find the back of the net, he definitely made himself a nuisance to Wolves defence, and really, that’s what he does best. And if I was a betting girl, and you know I’m not, I would have put money on Bosingwa to net a goal himself. He was all over and came dangerously close a few times. Welcome back to the Unibrow, you did the EoD proud.

Elsewhere in the league, the Gooners did us a favour by taking three points off of Citeh. SkySports did an amazing job of making this match all about us. The preview leading up to the match entitled it 'The Bid to Become Chelsea's Number 1 Rival'. Well done Sky. ;)  And not to dampen that party at all with all the bravado that’s being flounced about, but let’s be honest, they only played against 10 men for what was essentially the entire match. Surely even we could have nicked a few points at Eastlands if we had a man advantage. For those of you who watched the match, it was like the twilight zone….good goal keeping from Arsenal AND Bendtner did not miss an open net.

And…I didn’t come up with this myself, but thought it summed up the Rooney affair quite nicely:

 The genius of Wayne Rooney:

1 Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United because Manchester United are not signing enough top quality players.

2 Manchester United sign Wayne Rooney to a long-term big-money contract.

3 Wayne Rooney thinks Wayne Rooney is a top quality player.

 4 Wayne Rooney is happy.

Next up will not be the Carling Cup so, we get some time to rest up (that means you and your groin Frank Lampard). Then we’ll be travelling to Ewood Park to face off against Blackburn. They are just off a loss to Liverpool <no you didn’t read that wrong> and will be looking to right any wrongs. Paul Robinson was outstanding the first half and will be tricky to get a goal past. And Gamst or Pederson or whatever he’s calling himself this season will be a problem for our defence. Although we’re masters at home, we have been known to let a goal or two in on the road. Head to Scally’s for some brekkie and pre-Halloween fun for the 10am kick off.

5 points clear of Arsenal, United, and Citeh...Happy Birthday Mr. Abramovich.
