The EoD also knows the pain of a CL final. Oh yes....yes, he does.
Your post Villa email <blog> from me was not delayed from yours truly having a giant strop about the goings on at Villa Park (what seems like every season), I've had a touch of flu and just didn't get it done. I'm sure that's quite the relief for a lot of you. haha. So, now you get an extra long one with two games already under our belts for the week and its barely hump day.
Oh Villa Park...why do you vex us. Saturday started out in fine form with one Edwin Van Der Sar helping our bid for a United cushion by bundling the ball into his own net for the equalizer after they had been 2-nil up on the team that has our back week in and week out...West Brom. If they do City in on the 7th I say we pool our funds and send Roberto some flowers or something more manly and appropriate...hookers maybe?
Although we had a load of injuries to key players and basically played our two least injured centres, it was really no excuse for looking so flat. We were lucky not to have been scored on in the first couple of minutes if it weren't for the magic that is Petr Cech. As a sidenote, how good has our man in the helmet been lately?!? A lot of focus has been on our midfield, mainly Malouda, but big Pete seems to have found hs once intimidating form and kept that clean sheet, as he did against Moscow today (yesterday for those of you being irresponsible and reading this at your office). We were definitely missing some creative inspiration although did find it close to the end with our little Josh! He may look you could blow him over, but the boys stands his ground. So well in fact he got carded for it. How he was carded for anyone running into him and falling down, I'll never know. That reward usually goes to the players that are more Titus Bramble sized. However, we managed a point, a put 7 past them last time we played, so we'll move on and take care of them when they come to the Bridge. Full credit however goes to Gerard Houllier who in the post match interview corrected the interviewer who referred to us as merely the Champions reminding him that we were in fact the double winners. Sure it makes him look better for taking a point of a team of such awesomeness, but still....
And those injuries of course took us all the way to Moscow. Was I wanting to write about playing in Moscow...in Champions League....with Anelka being our main man...you can probably guess. I think that stadium will be a bitter pill to swallow. It didn't help that whenever the game fell even slightly flat the commentators referenced our previous match there. But I digress.... From the first whistle, it was brilliant to hear our supporters singing their hearts out. As we're not besties yet, I can't speak for JT, but imagine it meant the world to him probably moreso than anyone else out there. And although tested more times by this plucky club moreso than anyone since 2009. They are the first team to manage at least 9 shots on target since we lost to Wigan. Yet another match I'd like to forget. However, after Yuri scored that cracking goal, we managed to settle and have everything under control. JT and Branislav were great at the back, and although Anelka did miss a sitter...as he shot at a goal in Moscow <cough>, was great and scored a fantastic goal himself. Job done, 9/9 points so far in Champions League in our bid to win the group. Also positive was when the EoD was sure we were in control, sent in the kids from a bench that would have excited Wenger for all the wrong reasons. Josh, Gael, and Patrick all did well when they came on. So well that the commenator mistakenly called Van Aanholt Cole after a fantastic clearance. As long as those guys are being paid to pay attention....
And as its going to basically bogart all the headlines until the transfer window closes, there is a new addition to Roneygate. Gone are the £1200 a night hookers, in is a sad aged alcoholic....SAF. Oh yes, Sir Alex actually came out and addressed the press today, directly for a change....and humility. Sincere and hurt by want away Rooney or wiley manager who only uses the press when he absolutely needs to. Not that I'm cynical at all. There was a part of me that almost felt bad for him....almost. But the bigger question is where will the not scoring unless he pays for it Rooney go? The most obvious candidate right now is City. They like to splash the cash no matter how well the player is doing. They'd definitely pay well over market for Rooney who's had an ankle injury arguably since playing against Bayern Munich. The truth up until 24 hours ago on the ankle was debatable. But a certain ginger laid into that ankle...and yada yada yada...Roo left on a stretcher. However, there has been an odd rumour outside of City and the Spanish giants...and that's us folks. Yes, we have got thrown into this mess whether we like it or not. How do you feel about that? With nearly all our strikers injured at one time, we could use another one as back up. Plus Drogba and Anelka won't be playing forever. However, could EoD work his magic on someone who has only scored a penalty since March this year? Would he thrive in a more free flowing position with the pressure of him being 'the' man help him? Do we really want him? Admittedly, as most of us watch at a mixed supporter bar, it would be a hilarious wind up. But do we really care? Something to think about over the next 70+ days as this story gets more tedious than Cesc heading to Barca or will Lindsay Lohan end up in rehab. (The answer to both of those is yes, yes they will)
See you for our next home match as we take on the team ahead of Liverpool in the table.....Wolves.

ps...Congrats to the EoD on his 100th game in charge of a Champions League fixture AND to Le Sulk for netting his 50th goal for us. Looks like a little club from London continues to write some history for its players. No biggie.
