Overseeing affairs, and blending in like a local....if Craven Cottage was in Brixton...
Morning All
God that was frustrating. I felt like a virgin on prom night. With so many former team-mates on Fulham and all that time spent near their box, you’d think John Terry would surely have managed to score. For a few moments in the second half I actually forgot what Petr Cech looked like, and then thought he might come up and fancy a shot himself. But to no avail. It was a hard earned point, and we do have Cech to thank for rescuing that point in the end with his fantastic save on the last gasp penalty.
I’m sure a lot of you worried and wondered about the Drog starting from the bench last night. But with the team still working out a new system at Cobham, now is not the time to experiment. Torres is FA Cup tied, so if one of them had to be on the bench, the obvious choice was Didier as he will be starting bright and early on Saturday morning for Luiz’ hair off with Fellaini.
A lot of people seem quick to jump up and down about Torres. How dare he not score a goal after a whole 120 minutes, but the man wasn’t getting a whole lot of service, and when he did have the ball, you have to admit, he did make Fulham’s defense look horribly flat footed. Once he settles and regains his finishing touch, no one will be able to stop him scoring.
But the big story is the man who got so overshadowed by our swarthy Spaniard. David Luiz looked class in the short time he had against Liverpool, and was brilliant last night aside from the lack of judgment at the end to give away that penalty. Minor matters though. Stellar passing and looks to be a fantastic partner for Terry. Unless the Ramos showed up on our doorstep, I would not change our defensive line (sorry Paulo and Alex).
And thank you to Glen Hoddle for taking the heat of our peformance by saying Torres could be renamed after that Asian Striker 'Knee Shin Toe'. I'm sure after Gray and Keys returned to air on talksport yesterday, they were pleased to hear someone properly filling in for them. And we were all worried that everything would change...
And for any of you out there still moaning and groaning, look to our ‘away’ support. OK, they only had to travel down the road. But, they were in fantastic form last night singing away showing proper support for the team. Songs for everyone from Kalou to Torres could be heard throughout Craven Cottage, and next time you’re all having a strop about not winning every match, look to the travelling support and consider getting behind the team instead of just moaning about them. We don’t have the power to actually change the lineup ourselves, but we can certainly give the eleven men that are out there a boost like the lads did last night.
See you in your pyjamas for breakfast at the crack of dawn Saturday morning. Sideshow Bob inspired wigs are definitely optional.
