Roll on the Quarter Finals

In honour of St Paddy's -- I present you the biggest imbiber that I know.

Remember last year at this time? When we were not in Champions League anymore? Is this just a pathetic attempt at getting you excited about yesterday? You bet it is. That could have been one of the most anti-climatic ways to have clawed our way into the quarter finals, but who cares? We’re in and that’s all that ever matters.  Goals in Europe are overrated anyways, just ask Rangers. OK. Not completely true. We definitely played like a club that had a 2 away goal lead, and our only job was really not to concede. Not great for the home support to see, but again, all that matters is that we are through to the next round. Draw for the next round is tomorrow. Are we all just hoping for Schalke or Shaktar? TSO wants to avoid the EoD, and I'd rather not get Overbo'd again but you know its all pretty much set up for us to draw one of the Spanish teams. We can't always be as lucky as we got with Copenhagen. That would just be greedy.

So, our biggest talking point of the game? Yes. FC Kopenhavn’s amazing pink cerise kits. Because, you know, calling the colour a different name makes it so much more manly and acceptable. I had always Szczesny’s favourite pink keeper kit was pretty poor, but putting it on your entire outfield team? Who’s idea was this? Its almost as bad as erecting a statue of a dead crazy pop star outside of your football ground...What?.....oh....

Actually, there was one other talking point that’s probably just for me, but here you are stuck reading this, so now its for you too. How great was it to see Frank unselfishly try and try again to help out Fernando. Sure, we all want to see him get his first goal in blue. But when we were under no real pressure to score, Frank selflessly continued getting the ball to Fernando when there were a few opportunities that he could have tried to score himself. Speaks loads about not only the men, but of the atmosphere in the dressing room. Well done Mr Lampard.

On to the more important matters -- I know you may not believe it, but, the rumours are true. Chelsea are in fact....wait for it.....playing a match on the weekend! Yes, I know that you think it’s all too good to be true. A lie in, a full English, a pint, and nothing but football to think about for the rest of the day, no rushing home from work to catch it. Yes, dreams do come true. Gone are the very American Monday night football, we are back on the weekend folks. We face Citeh this Sunday. Sure, the fact that we are facing a team that we apparently have forgotten how to beat and are somehow sitting slightly above us in the table isn’t an ideal re-entry into the fun and games of weekend football....BUT, they have the good fortune of playing today. Which means, we have an extra day of rest, you know, aside from the resting ourselves so efficiently yesterday.

We’ll also have our feisty Brazilian back in the lineup who doesn’t even get to wear a CL winter jacket when he’s on the bench with the rest of the team. Surely we could have got him one whether he’s entitled to play or not. Anyways, him and Fernando Freckles will definitely be starting against Citeh on Sunday. Along with them, could actually be anyone. Believe it or not, we are fully fit. Both Alex and Yossi have been in training. Carlo’s already picked his team. Who would you start against Citeh to move back up the table to third? Will we finally get to see Fernando pop his Chelsea cherry?
First, the FA has now ruled out the fashion faux pas that was the snood. Was it surprising that the decision came shortly after my disgust at Essien wearing one? Obviously not. And now, after numerous rants, here and elsewhere....is Fabio Capello about to see the error of his ways? Was it fun singing 'There's Only One England Captain'? Yes and yes. The lesser of Italian managers could fix the mess he made just ahead of world cup and re-instate arguably one of the best Captain's ever. Sure, he's a bit naughty at times, but that man will do anything for club or country and was born to lead others. He gives everything he's got (on and apparently off) the pitch, and deserves to get the armband back.
See you Sunday, and remember with the clocks changing in Canadia....you’ve all got an extra hour of sleep. You are welcome.

ps....for those of you who don't fancy some St Paddy's day math because you're already far too intoxicated on green beer....Fergie's 5 match touchline ban does in fact put him back in 4th official abusing distance for...yes....the Chelsea match at OT. Convenient much?

pps....welcome back to our lives Jens. How I've missed you fighting with Didier, ball boys, your own defenders, ....your own shadow. Magnificient that he's back. Bookies taking on bets who gets his wrath first? I say, not Almunia, but Koscielny to take the first punch to the throat. ;)
